Anarchy sets in
A view of the entrance
The barrage of projectiles which rained on the supporters came from one area of the protest only. At various points, others would get on the bandwagon, pick up a plastic bottle and throw it on the police. But as a rule, all missiles came from one area. They included potatoes, apples, rotten tomatoes, eggs, water-filled balloons and plaster bombs. I did not see any evidence of condoms filled with urine as reported by the media. However, I was less than ten meters from the point of impact (as my dry-cleaner could tell you) and there was a terrible stench in the air.
Inside the building, security was busy mopping up the mess. A large area of the floor around the entrance was covered with eggs. Going up the stairs on eggs was a very dangerous exercise. Looking back at the number of eggs thrown, there is little doubt that the backpacks of the early protesters contained more than pamphlets. Security inside the meeting was well organised.
