Leaving the meeting
We were
held up for quite some time in the foyer as the police waited for the right
opportunity to open the doors. Shortly after 9pm we were allowed to leave
through another door. There was a police line of 80 to 100 with support
from 15 mounted police. The virulence of the verbal assault on the supporters
was astonishing. Long gone was the festive atmosphere of some three hours
before. The crowd was angry and I could not understand why there was no
protection for the people leaving the meeting beyond the 50 odd meters
of the police cordon.
