Aboriginal activist Michael Mansell suggests that some nations could boycott the games..

Aboriginal activist Michael Mansell yesreday said that any attempt to extinguish native title on pastoral leases would prompt some African and South Pacific nations to boycott the Sydney 2000 Olympics.

Mansell, the legal manager of the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre, warned the government against granting exclusive rights to leaseholders in the wake of the High Court's Wik decision, which found that native title and pastoral leases could co-exist.

Mansell said, "If the government is to legislate against one group of landowners only, that legislation would be the material form needed by Aboriginal groups to take to African and South Pacific nations to show hos discriminatory the national policy of land ownership in Australia is.

"We are confident that many of the black nations, South Pacific countries and many other countries, would refuse to attend teh Sydney Olympic Games".

Mr Mansell said Aboriginal groups did not want to attempt a boycott of the games but had to protect their legal rights.
