The Acute Health Services Program was established in 1992 following the amalgamation of the two former Departments of Health, and Community Services.
The program funds over 120 public hospitals with treatment to over 760,000 inpatients in 1993-94. Public hospitals also provided over six million occasions of outpatient service.
An important element of the responsibility of Parliament and the Executive Government in Victoria is to make decisions affecting the direction and management of the State's financial operations. The functions of the Law Reform Committee are:

To examine, report and make recommendations to the Parliament in respect of any proposal or matter relating to law reform in Victoria. .
