Candidate: Hughes: Colene

Colene was born in Wynnum the second of three children. She was brought up in a family environment where it was encouraged to discuss topics such as politics, religion, current affairs and World events at the kitchen table. This grounding has given Colene a keen awareness of what is happening around her.

With her Father firstly being a theologian and then a school teacher, Colene was given a foundation that would hold her in good stead in later life. All things cannot be rosy, she has had her fair share of kicks, which has helped develop a basic philosophy of "That which does not break me, makes me stronger." Colene has travelled extensively around Australia as well as overseas, taking great interest in people of all walks of life, experiencing, as a working resident, other country's governments, was an education in itself.

Moving to the Ipswich area in 1990, she could see the potential this region had to offer. Restoration and reclamation of old houses, has long been of interest to Colene. With her cousin, she has recently purchased one of Ipswich's "Treasures" a cottage that was built in the 1850's, which they are painstakingly restoring.

Colene has held various positions in the work force ranging from small business proprietor, self-employment, planning and development and middle management. Colene has raised two daughters, the youngest still in Primary school. Being too busy getting on with life and raising her children, Colene never found time to get totally involved with any political party until January this year, when Colene became a member of the One Nation Party, and was consequently elected secretary of the Ipswich Branch. She had been thinking for years that which Pauline Hanson and the One Nation movement were saying out loud. As the old statement goes, "If you want something fixed, sitting and talking about it won't get the job done." Recent events have galvanised Colene's resolve to channel all her energies, into giving the people of the Bundamba electorate the representation that has for so long been sadly lacking.

Colene is honoured to be delegated the portfolio of Public Works and Housing. She believes her experience in the construction and infrastructure industries, in both planning and on-site management can be of benefit to the electorate of Bundamba. With a fresh approach and new ideas, coupled with the input from the Bundamba electorate, she believes we will make this a better place to live, work and play.
