The One Nation Member for Lockyer, Dr. Peter Prenzler, has accused the Federal Government of blackmail by threatening to withhold funding from the States over the firearms' buyback program.
"The entire program has been a disaster which has wasted massive amounts of tax money for little or no reward except to pander to the political fantasies of a few academics and partisans at Canberra who are out of touch with reality," Dr. Prenzler warned.
"The Government pledged to make society safer, but all it has achieved is a safer society for criminals and rising crime," the One Nation Member declared. "The big buyback had only one objective and that was to stop sport shooting and get stuck into honest and law abiding people who believed they had a right to own a firearm for personal protection," he said.
"It was all about getting the Liberal-Labor gang off the hook about pornographic literature and movies, violent TV, failure to fight crime, falling ethical standards, amoral education, and a host of related problems that fuelled crime," said Dr. Prenzler..
"They persecuted and vilified sports shooters, and now their distortions have come home to roost with higher crime and a more dangerous society ," he said.
Dr. Prenzler attacked Federal Justice Minister Amanda Vanstone as out of touch, and like the centralists before her, quite willing to stoop to blackmailing the States to compound the waste and failure of her pet scheme to disarm Australia and destroy the Anzac tradition.
"Do what I want done, or I'II punish you financially is how Ms. Vanstone does her business."
Dr. Prenzler called on the Beattie Government to tell Ms. Vanstone to peddle her papers elsewhere and stop pushing a barrow of dead fish uphill under a hot sun.
"People are fed up with government by committee, and in this case government by a police committee making jobs for itself and problems for everybody else where problems just don't exist. The Vanstone standover tactics again prove that the Liberals and Labor are still in bed together, and have not changed their agenda to destroy sports shooting and disarm Australians."
"Sport shooters who believe the major parties have had a change of heart are only fooling themselves, and if they voted for them, then they have hurt their own cause," he said.
"Howard and his Liberal-Labor mates have opted to follow the British experience, but with an almost total ban on sportsmen, the U.K. has triggered a rising crime rate which now has crime greater than the gun-friendly USA," Dr. Prenzler said.
