Coverage by Scott Balson, Global Web Builders
There was something intensely special about this weekend. The celebration of Pauline Hanson's One Nation's first birthday. It has taken me some time to put my hand on it, and yet, it still escapes me..... maybe you can put it in a few words and send me an email after you have viewed the images.
Today, the 13th April 1998, I read that the Democrats have conceded, after independent surveys, that One Nation will gain at least five seats in the Senate and probably hold the balance of power after the double-dissolution.
This special lady we call Pauline Hanson is more than just politics now.
Two years ago she was selling fish and chips in a shop not much larger than a dunny; one year ago she launched a new political party; today she has become the leader of the third largest political force in Australia.
Some people and the mainstream media tell me that she is ill-informed, ill-educated, a bigot, racist and divisive. Others tell me that she speaks for the mainstream population. It goes without saying that I support the latter point of view.
When you view the pictures in this coverage consider what this woman has been put through by the media in the last two years. She is no longer just a politician. She is the mother of this nation.
She is a wonderful woman and like many, many Australians I love her for her dedication, vision and guts...... she is Pauline.
