Dubai trainees forced home

The soldiers training to do work on Australian wharves have had their training visas revoked in the United Arab Emirates after pressure from the international waterfront unions threatened to boycott ships from the port of Dubai.

The trainees were furious by the move which came after the Australian trade unions gathered support from their overseas trade union associates.

Affirmative Action denounced in the US.

Here is an on-line extract from the Washington Post on the ongoing debate in the US about affirmative action:

"But "talking about the evils of affirmative action is not enough" and can be dangerous if it is seen as minimising the effects of discrimination, he said. "Any discussion about affirmative action must begin with an acknowledgment of the problem and include alternatives to affirmative action."

"Moreover, Luntz acknowledged that the words "affirmative action" strike a responsive chord among voters and urged that lawmakers concentrate their fire instead on "government-sponsored quotas and preferences" -- a distinction that goes to the heart of the politics of affirmative action.

"Voters in California last year and Houston last month made the same point, with Californians rejecting "preferences" while Houston voters opted to keep "affirmative action."

"In what was one of the most detailed surveys on the subject, a 1995 Gallup Poll showed that 53 percent of whites along with 72 percent of blacks supported "affirmative action programs," while 86 percent of whites and 68 percent of blacks opposed favoring a "less qualified" minority job applicant over a white applicant. But the choice was less clear-cut on issues such as awarding a percentage of government contracts to businesses owned by minorities and women, which was strongly supported by blacks and only narrowly opposed by whites."

To the Editor

Dear Sir,

In regard to Tony Fitzpatrick's letter about CIR. When Citizens' Initiated Referenda is introduced, the Constitution does not have to be changed. CIR is added as an amendment.

Ted Mack and Bruce Ruxton, both adherents of CIR have already been elected to the Constitutional Conventional Committee. For other names and information on CIR see my home page on http://www.ozemail.com.au/~ciraust. It was printed by News of The Day in July.

"Academic studies and my own experience suggest that non-violent paedophilia with a consenting partner over age 12 does no harm so long as the paedophiles and their partners are of above-average IQ and educational level."

Shane

That just about sums up the level of logic and credibility of the politically correct trash found on the Rocket pages. A page promoted on the home page of the Nyungah Circle of Elders web site.

Editor.

Personal trivia, from the global office:

Lovely rain this morning.
