Howard refused to change his tack when questioned in Parliament saying, quite rightly, that the Asian reports were based on false information and required no response..... my question is who tabled the remarkably similar and jaundiced reports to the editors of these papers. Knowing the desperate state that the Labor Party are in I personally wouldn't be surprised if the reports were based on a document faxed by Labor minders with the best interests of their, and their masters jobs in mind, and absolutely no qualms about damage that the report might do to the "Asian dependent" jobs of Mums and Dads in Australia.
You might recall, a few weeks ago, the following response that we received:
Just for your note, living in Brunei, the racsim debate in Australia has been very quiet. Talking to most Asians it doesn't affect them at all. Racism is rife throughout Asia, Malays hate Chinese, Chinese hate
Malays, they all hate Indians,- in fact a Malay told my wife yesterday- "If there was a snake and an
Indian running in front of the car, always miss the snake". The quote about the The Straits Times, it is a
paper from Singapore and prints the Singapore Governments views totally. It quite often "Australia
bashes" in various articles, I think they must be jealous. A Singaporean told a friend of ours a few weeks
ago that the Singaporeans believe Australia is a third world country.
Enough, I could go on forever with Asia's racist views of Australia.
Keep up the good work , I always enjoy your page, even if I don't always agree, I suppose that's part of
freedom we still enjoy in Australia!
Personally I think that it is rather rich that Asian countries who have extremely strict and, dare I say it, "racist" immigration laws should start pointing the finger and threatening Australia with repercussions.
To me it smacks of sick, cowardish and desperate politicking by nameless bureaucrats in Canberra who will never admit to being the originators of the report used in the Asian papers.
Political:
State opposition Labor leader, Peter Beattie, has quite correctly remarked that the Queensland State Coalition have once again returned to the bad old days that the state suffered when "Jo" was Premier.
In late September the State government performed a remarkable political stunt... a government originated inquiry into an inquiry by the Criminal Justice Commission into the dealings of senior state politicians.
Once again Police Minister Russell Cooper (one of the Nationalist boys from Jo's days) was in the thick of the scandal... with a document that he signed with the Police Union days before the state Mundingburra by-election in February this year.
The result of the "inquiry into the inquiry" was the resignation of the inquiry commissioner, Kenneth Carruthers QC, just weeks before the release of the report which could have implicated Russell Cooper in criminal activity. His resignation means that the inquiry basically comes to nought.
Commenting on his resignation Carruthers said, the government's inquiry, by Peter Connolly QC (the same man who had defended Russell Cooper in the original inquiry), and Kevin Ryan QC, had tried to "exert control" over him directly and over his inquiry "moment by moment, while my inquiry was still under way."
Carruthers said that a guilty finding against senior politicians could now be interpreted as "sour grapes" and a non-guilty finding as one tainted by the government inspired inquiry into his original inquiry.
The Coalition State Government are looking and talking like little angels in whose mouths butter wouldn't melt.... but fellows, the voters know better!
Somehow I think that the people will just evict you at the next state election just like they did last time you started playing these disgraceful games.
The real debate, as I see it, is about the media and its ability to report the facts upon which the public can debate. There is overwhelming evidence to suggest Australians are being shielded from reality (i.e. facts). Every day, I monitor the television news, up to 5 stations daily and mostly the evening news. The data I record is proof public opinion is routinely manipulated. Just last night, the Peter Bartel story "exploded" on the TV screen. Channel Nine, in a display of irresponsible journalism, made extraordinary claims about Mr Bartel's salary. I know that it is all false or misleading information and I can prove it. Unfortunately, it is all too late. The story has already made it to parliament and created (baseless) public anger.
It is not Pauline Hanson we should discuss, it is the lack of accountability of our media. This is the real issue and for as long as we ignore it we will be condemned to knee-jerk every time Ray Martins needs to boost his ratings.

President of TELNEM, a media-watch organisation based in Melbourne.
Do you think that there are major and important issues at stake here?
Most important of all do you think that Pauline Hanson should "shut up" and let the bureaucrats in Canberra run their agenda against the will of the many people in Australia who want the issue debated?
Yesterday we received this response related to the our report about the formation of a new Pauline Hanson party.
Subject: Pauline Hanson thingy
I find it interesting that the people who are seen flocking to PH are
middle-classed people aged beyond 50. I hope that the intolerent
segment of this generation dies off quickly and quietly while we still
have enough trade links in Asia to pay off the deficit they have laden
my generation with.

Do you think that the immigration debate has got out of control?:
Do you think that Pauline Hanson should shut up about immigration?:
Please email any views or related information on the above.
Do you feel that the Australian Parliament has the right to overrule the Northern Territory's euthanasia bill: | Yes: 9 | No: 125 |
Australis yesterday said that it had completed the US$150 million bond issue enabling it to make tomorrow's US$125 million loan repayment to Toronto Dominion Bank.
If the money had not been received Australis would probably have been forced into liquidation.
