It is now understood that the eleven year old boy involved in spitting at Pauline Hanson now faces further charges for assaulting his Family Services case officer the same day he was granted bail and also charges for absconding from the home of a carer.
But Aboriginal Affairs Minister John Herron yesterday called on the Labor Opposition to support Coalition legislation to clarify the High Court's Wik decision.
Herron referred to a preamble in the Keating government's Mabo legislation which included a clause which said pastoral leases extinguished Native Title and that the Opposition was obligated to keep that view.
"We went to the last election saying that we would make Native Title both practical and workable but that recent decision of the High Court, it just makes it more difficult, Herron said.
"The Mabo two decision was premised on the fact that pastoral leases extinguished Native Title and that was what Paul Keating said.
"And now the Wik decision says that pastoral leases co-exist with native title and only where there's conflict do these pastoral leases take precedence.
"But it will be a great challenge for the Government to make it practical and workable."
The pitch seemed to be to blame for the low scoring match as it became cracked and unpredictable resulting in some very strange flights in the bouncing ball. Above all it was a financial disaster for the Australian Cricket Board whose 5 day "gate money" match was reduced to only 3.
