He tried to reassure Australians as Deputy Prime Minister Tim Fischer said in Sydney that China did not pose an increasing military threat.
Wiryono said, "It sometimes saddens me that there are still a large number of Australians who look upon their neighbours immediately to the north with misgivings and apprehension because somehow they consider Indonesia an occasion of danger to their security."
On matters military defence force chief General Baker said that by the year 2000 Australia would be militarily self-reliant but in the event of a threat to the security of Australia would not hesitate to call on the US to gain an "unfair advantage".
Gen Baker added that the Australian forces were not beholden to any military power but enjoyed being in a security blanket with the US.
In fact, let's take this moment to take our hats off for the US troops who played a major role in supporting Australia during World War II...
Good on ya Yanks... bet you thought you would never see that comment here!
What gives Michael Jackson? Only 13 days after his marriage to pregnant Debbie Rowe at a Sydney hotel Michael Jackson has once again found himself to be at the receiving end of a walk out. Last night the lonely star was once again fighting to save a failed marriage with an event that must add to his "Legendary" status....
Jackson is currently in Perth, Western Australia, as part of his tour to Australia. It is understood that Rowe wants a divorce. Now we won't question why, but I am sure that some pretty good financial gains will be made by at least one partner at the end of the day!
He called on the Labor Party and others to "stop this vicious nit-picking" and allow the government to introduce measures for which it already has a mandate.
On Tuesday the Senate rejected at least Au$185 million in cuts in social security payments to newly arrived immigrants.
Last night the Federal Coalition were holding their breath as two Independent Senators, holding the balance of power, decided whether to join the Opposition and other minor parties to defeat controversial changes to the Higher Education Contribution Scheme (HECS). Rejection of HECS would punch a Au$1.2 billion hole in the Government's balance sheet over a four year period.
To date we have had no response on the news groups to this threat from Charles Mannington.
But here's an email received from Dean Malandris, creator of the Pervert Technology Home Page:
Hope it's OK.
PS: Are those extraneous quotes from "Charles" real? I really hope he's just
someone out for a troll and a bit of fun, because if he's on the level,
hooooweeeee, I'm glad I don't live up there!
I tried to put my signature here, but the ball-point kept slipping off the
screen, so I'm typing this instead.

More than 3000 new sites are planned before the year 2000. Telstra is researching a South African palm-tree tower it hopes to "plant" next to real trees.
Telstra spokesman Jim Madigan said, "What we're trying to do is cover up transmitters to make them fit buildings so they're less obvious."
Paul Amato of the University of Nabraska gave the keynote address to the fifth Australian Family Research Conference yesterday and talked about the results of his twenty year research.
It has involved interviews with some 2,000 married couples at regular intervals to assess the factors which make divorce more likely.
Amato said, "Our research has shown that children from divorced families compared with children who grow up in continuously intact two-parent families enter adulthood with less education, they earn less money and have fewer financial assets.
"They tend to have poorer quality relationships with their parents, in particular their fathers. They tend to have poorer marital quality within their own marriages and they are more prone to divorce.
"In our research we took into account other background characteristics of families, including parent's education, parents income, age and a variety of other characteristics to rule out that some other factor could account for it.
"We think that divorce, but also the conflict between parents that accompanies and frequently follows divorce, is a key factor."
Have a good one!
