The Speaker called on the Prime Minister John Howard to speak as Clinton made his way into the House. Howard retorted, "We've got to wait for him," pointing at Bill Clinton coming through the door - with the crowd bursting into spontaneous laughter and applause.
Clinton praised Australia as a loyal friend of the US and said that a more stable Asia-Pacific region could be achieved through strengthened US security alliances, greater engagement with China and the spread of democracy.
Clinton said, "Today I say again with utter confidence, our alliance is not just for this time, it is for all time.
"I wish I could have come earlier, and I've had so much fun in the last day. I'm amazed that only three American Presidents have come here."
On more important trade issues Clinton promised to try to resolve festering sores in the automotive and farming areas where barriers have badly effected Australia's ability to be competitive and export to the US.

However, four independent psychaitric reports were tendered to the court yesterday, all agreed that Bryant was not insane and did not suffer from any form of schizophrenia.

In the submissions before the media review board about media ownership in this country it has now come to light that Packer's Publishing and Broadcasting Limited have requested that foreign ownership of Australian media be prevented a scenario which would effectively give Packer carte blanche ownership of Australia's media.
