International:

A Federal Court judge warned yesterday that foreign investors could be "white-anted" by the attempts of a Brisbane businessman to stop the sale of Dreamworld the masssive Gold Coast theme park to a Singaporean. The receivers of Dreamworld, Ernst and Young, appear to be in a no-win situation with Kua Phek Long threatening to sue them if they talk to Mr Palmer, the Brisbane businessman, while the judge's request for a delay in the sale for his judgement on the issue has put the deal at risk. Kua Phek Long's Counsel said Mr Palmer had sought to "misuse the process of the law to achieve a commercial benefit at the expense of his client." And I dumbly thought that Dreamworld was all about fun for kids.

Political:

National Party leader Tim Fischer said that a National/Liberal coalition would put together a major strategy targeting exports to India and Asia. This policy would be the first detailed by the coalition in the new year in the lead up the Federal election early next year.

Business:

The 1996 wheat crop in Australia has reached new records with 12.7 million tonnes being harvested. Exports are set to be the big winner with Au$3 billion expected to be returned at the current rate of Au$235 per tonne.

Sport:

Well Sayonara did win the Sydney to Hobart, but it appears that that galiant little battler, Ragamuffin, owned by Syd Fisher will win the race on classification handicap. For the record Sayonara crossed the finishing line at Battery Point at 1:53.35pm yesterday afternoon and was followed home by Brindabella at 3:53.59pm
In sport an uglier side of life has appeared with the cricket test umpires receiving death threats following some of the controversial rulings against the Sri Lankan team. The Sri Lankan team performed much better in their second innings with 284 for 6 wickets after being forced to follow on Australia's 500 when they reached only 233 in their first innings. Ansanka Gurusinha starred with an impressive 143 in just seven hours before being bowled by Reiffel.

Social:

There have been a number of serious dog attacks in people in Australia in the last few weeks. The deaths of two elderly women, one in Perth by a pack of Rottweillers, and another in Toowoomba by a single Pit Bull, was followed yesterday by an Adelaide teenager who was badly mauled by two boxers. The attacks have raised the issue of the owners responsibility for their pets and calls for the current Au$500 fine to be revised up to Au$20,000 with an option of 12 months imprisonment.

Personal trivia:

As we approach the end of 1995 it is a time for reflection. When looking back at time and space in the year gone by there is so much to be thankful for and so much to ponder and, in certain moments, to regret. One thing about life though is that the wheels never stop turning, the experiences like scenery from a moving car never stop changing. We are at the wheel and dictate what the scenery of life is from moment to moment.. thought to thought.. action to action.. Like a car we can change its course at any moment in time - as long as we are driving the car and not allowing someone else to dictate our passage for us. Here lies the true jewel of living.
