Australian-Chinese businessman, James Peng, lost his last line of appeal against an 18-year jail sentance in China following a business deal which went wrong.
Political:
Big news today. Labor maverick Graeme Campbell who holds the safe Labor seat of Kalgoorlie has lost his re-endorsement for the seat in next year's election.
Graeme and Paul Keating are not mates. Last year Campbell said that the way Keating could best support Labor's chances in the next election was by having a state
funeral. Some classics from Campbell "his parting shots": On Carmen Lawrence: I can see the headlines now- Campbell sacked for telling the truth. Carmen Lawrence gets bills paid for telling lies. On Paul Keating: (He telephoned and said) I've got to tell you mate your time is up."
Carmen Lying (MCPE) Lawrence's comment on Campbell was particularly interesting. She said that he could not toe the party line. Obviously that includes lying if
she has not been similarly dissaffected.
Business:
David Jones listed at 3 cents below its $2 float price. Indicative of the wary investor. Australian shares have performed poorly since the 1987 crash when compared to those on Wall Street.
Sport:
Cricket star Steve Waugh's loyalty to Australia is best demonstrated by his rejection of a Au$500,000 superannuation deal to play county cricket in England.
Social:
.A report has revealed that Australian Universities are failing students by teaching them political correctness as opposed to the ability to think for themselves.
Personal trivia:
Stinking hot day yesterday - the temperature reached 36 degreec C. My Mum lay on her bed downstairs and looked like a melted marshmallow on the edge of a barbecque.
