International:

Unions have vowed to escalate the row against CRA at Weipa. Would this be the workers or the advice of their bunkered bosses fearing loss of membership.

Political:

Bob Hawke has offered to help Labor win the next Federal election. One wonders what Prime Minister Paul Keating thinks? Perhaps he should enlist Marcell Marcau instead!

Business:

The Federal Government should consider giving legal aid to people trying to sue Westpac (one of Australia's big banks) because of the banks intimidatory tactics Parliament was told yesterday. Westpac's advice on foreign exchange based loans caused many businesses to fold in the 80s when the Australian dollar dropped. When the businesses they advised couldn't meet the burden Westpac promptly closed them down. Obviously there were some pretty unhappy vegemites out there.. who are now suing the bank.

Sport:

The ARL (Australian Rugby League)/Superleague mess is getting murkier and murkier with the "what's best for the game" calls across the hallowed ARL halls long since a dead echo - now replaced by the ebbing and flowing of glaring financial interests and conflicts of those that wield power in the game.

Social:

Black deaths in jail had reached a high level in Australia and was a cause for concern according to a report released today.

Personal trivia:

A magnificent morning after several days of light rain. The sky is sparkling blue, the grass is green and the Brisbane river rose a few metres as the rain water started to filter down the valley. It was the highest that we have seen it in over a year - causing the main road between Karana Downs and Ipswich to close at Colleges Crossing. We went for a drive to the bridge at Colleges Crossing and watched the turbulent brown water flow across the road there.
