International:

Bob Hawke launched a scatyhing attack on CRA yesterday saying that they must not win. Unlike Paul Keating's Marcell Marcau Bob Hawke was at his eloquent best reminding union officials of his bargaining skills when he led the ACTU in the 1970s.

Political:

The Federal Government has defended its tactic to release its budget forecasts in the middle of the Christmas break to minimise the damaging revelations that will surely be revealed as the economy weakens and as Australia moves towards another election.

Business:

Looks like a split is developing between partners Optus and Kerry Packer (Channel Nine) with Optus claiming the rights to cover the ARL matches. Watch this space - the money is definitely going to be thrown around here in the battle to win the Australian Pay TV war.

Sport:

Australia cleaned up Pakistan in the second test with Pakistani captain saying that "Australia have the best cricket team in the world."

Social:

A report now claims that Mums are not capable of giving their kids the social skills required to face life and that this task should be left to child care centres. Wonder who funded that report....

Personal trivia:

Lovely rain yesterday. We have had an estimated 6 inches in the last 72 hours. A leak in our roof saw a good portion of that land up in my global office. Luckily none of the computers were affected, but as I type I am drying out the carpet with the help of a heater. The Brisbane River had become brown and has turned from sluggish to fast moving with little swells and eddies appearing in the depth of its belly.
