Reserve Bank chief, Bernie Fraser, says that Australia has never had it so good siting the country's falling monthly trade deficit to below $2 billion, stable interest rates and a strong Au$ - currently at about US$0.75c.

Political:

The Queensland state Labor party is moving to dump its State President, Bob Gibbs, according to the vice president of the party. This follows the state Labor party's poor showing in the state elctions earlier this year. The party lost many seats and only just retained power by one seat.

Coles Myer chief Solomon Lew falls on his sword - relinquishing the role of Chairman while other influential directors in the company also agree to go.

Sport:

Foxtel television, sponsorship deal puts Australian Basketball League in the major league.

Social:

Seattle's Pacific Northwest Ballet is booked out for it's Australian visit. The program is part of Melbourne's Festival.
