International:

Well the ACTU, our blight, the Australian Trade Union will cost the Australian economy over Au$400 million with their 5 day waterside strike and their seven day coal mine strike to try to force CRA to change its mind. (See earlier headlines)

Political:

The Australian Senate has threatened to block the payment of nearly Au$1 milllion in legal bills rung up by Health Minister Lying (according to the findings of the Marks Commission into the Penny Easton affair MCPE) Lawrence. Maybe there is some sanity in Government after all as Lying (MCPE) Lawrence would not have got the same preferential treatment with the finest lawyers and special bills and support by her senior Labor government colleagues if she had been joe average.

Business:

Mining giant Western Mining Corporation is to spend Au$89 million in the acquisition of Finish producer, Finnminerals for Au$89 million. Finnminerals are Europe's largest producer of talc to the papaer industry.

Sport:

Australian great Tommo Thomson - the tearaway fast bowler who put fear in the hearts of his opposing batsmen has labelled the visiting Pakistani cricket team as "schoolboy stuff."

Social:

A Queensland Corrective Services report has disclosed that there is a 40% cumulative increase in prisoner numbers over the last two years in this state.

Personal trivia:

A day of sunny skies, cool breezes and singing birds. The young birds seem to have reappeared after the storms some time ago now. They play in the tall gums around the house and make their inexperience pretty obvious when there selection of landing point in the trees fails to carry their weight!
