anotd Off-line and discussion forum hacked

Update - the domain name was re-delegated to a new server yesterday.

The gwb files (about 170 mBytes) are being transferred to the new gwb site today.

The anotd should be live again tomorrow.

The gwb discussion forum was hacked into on Monday. Because it is run by a third party there is nothing that we can do ate this end - the owner went on two weeks leave on Sunday.

About 200 users were left without their forum. This will be re-established later this month, but in the control of gwb.

Between the One Nation lines

The growing media bias following the success of One Nation in the Queensland State Elections reached a low point on Sunday with Pauline's ex-private secretary Barbara Hazelton becoming the focus of a renewed round of claims and misleading articles.

I contacted Pauline's political adviser, David Oldfield, during that afternoon and suggested that we set up an ambush on the media to draw attention to how biased the media were.

The trap was laid on Monday with a press conference being called by Pauline Hanson at her Ipswich office to discuss the allegations that were made the previous week by Liberal MP Tony Abbott. The Queensland Times came to the meeting. The Queensland Times (QT) were largely responsible for pre-election state leader, Heather Hill, failing to be elected by just a few hundred votes - because of their blatant biased reporting in the days leading up to the election.

Mrs Hanson started the press conference by asking whether any of the 20 media who had assembled in her office were from the QT. She then ordered QT staff reporter Simon Kelly and photographer Kym McEwan-Watson out of her office.

McEwan-Watson refused to leave so state director Peter James called on a member of the Australian Protective Services staff to escort her from the offices.

Mrs Hanson then attacked the media in general for biased reporting. She then turned the blow-torch on the QT accusing their biased reporting being responsible for Heather Hill failing in gaining the seat of Ipswich and possibly being responsible for the loss of another state seat in the area.

"I personally, and also my candidates around the last election, as well as One Nation, are fed up with the biased reporting from the media.

"The Queensland Times did not do a fair job in reporting prior to the last election. And I believe that it is because of their biased reporting and their stories that Heather Hill and another candidate lost their seats - and this is quite well known around Ipswich."

Mrs Hanson attacked the media in general saying that they were "after newspaper sales".

She said that the QT would never be allowed into any more One Nation press conferences.

In reply the editor of the QT, Mark Hinchliffe, said, "A media conference call is a call for all media. When you start being selective about the media you're prohibiting freedom of speech and freedom of the media, which is something One Nation has been very strong on - the ability to have your say.

"But it doesn't seem like it's good medicine for them to take as well."

Hinchliffe described the paper's relationship with One Nation as on-again, off-again. "I suppose they are targeting us because Heather Hill lost in this area. But it's good to see that they think we are an effective media in Ipswich."

The last comment compounds the QT's position because it clearly exposes the political bias of the paper and its intention in the lead up to the Queensland State Election.
