Well, well wouldn't you know it... despite getting a press release yesterday that Pauline Hanson's One Nation Party has now been registered by the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) the News Limited papers have said diddly squad about it. This after much ado about those who sent in objections to it being accepted by the AEC.

But give the masters of distorted reporting their due they did make a mention of Pauline Hanson in today's Courier Mail... under the bottom line page below the editorial under a heading "Minimum Max for Pauline"... they say (in part):

Another knock back for Pauline Hanson's supporters in musical matters.

First, Bruce Woodley of the Seekers refused Ms Hanson's One Nation Party the use of the anthemic "I am Australian"....

Now its Max Merritt who has said no.

Mr Merritt is a veteran Australian rocker now based in Los Angeles. He and his band, The Meteors, had a giant hit in the 1970s with "Slipping Away"....etc..

The facade continues unabated. Perhaps the greatest irony is an article on the page opposite by Paul Wilson headed: "Lies and half-truths" - something the paper has the greatest qualifications on for sure! Wilson however is pointing the finger at you and me in our personal relationships, politicians, and the line that really made me laugh - coming from this paper was the following:
"Democracy only works, he (Ekman) argues, if the people believe that most of the time they are being told the truth by their elected representatives".... the missing bit was "but how can they be if there is no ethics in the newspapers reporting on whta they say?"

Two Queensland papers are under fire for publishing letters which have been described as "racist". The papers, Townsville's Twin Cities Independent and Rockhampton's The Morning Bulletin (interesting that they are not News Limited owned) have been attacked because they stupidly allowed letters suggesting that Aborigines should have been exterminated years ago.

J D McIlwraith from Rockhampton wrote that there was a Biblical precedent for set for extinguishing natives, while Philip Atkinson in Townsville wrote that the early settlers should have completed the genocide of Aboriginal people.

We get a large number of strange and offensive email that we would never publish. Much of it peppered with four letter words and displaying sick minds.

While John Howard returns from his trip to the US most of the rest of the cabinet and senior Labor politicians are taking a well earned rest in countries afar in the northern hemisphere with the Australian tax payer picking up the bill.

Think of Simon Creane and his extended holiday in France enjoying wine tasting... while you recall his comments about the need for Australia to pursue closer ties with Asia. Somehow I think he is in the wrong place is he is true to his word. A case of do what I say not what I do, I think.

Political:

Gough Whitlam said yesterday that Prime Minister John Howard's ten point plan on Wik had the potential to shame Australia in the eyes of the world.

"Unless there are negotiations now on the basis of acceptance of the law we all have submitted ourselves to endless litigation before our courts and shame before the world," he said.

He also took a swipe at the slow speed at which Australian bureaucracy moved saying, "Too often national solutions are postponed pending the agreement of the states or pending the next election.

"Too often federal and state governments use the federal system and the electoral system to justify postponement and excuse inertia.

"We institutionalise procrastination."

Why don't you join the left links mail list?

I did and found the info about ripping off One Nation's 1800 number. To be frank a lot of the messages make me feel "bad" to be Australian. This mail list is run mostly by people in Australian Universities some of whom are teaching the future generations.

All on Tax payers money... It's a lovely country.

Drop my name if you publish this on your WWW page some of the people on Left Links mailing list fall into the extremely mentally unstable category. Don't believe me?

Sign up and you be the judge.

Shane.

Heres the message regarding the 1800 number.

Subject: psychic

I have just read a story about a psychic in the New Idea magazine.(24/05/97) The person says he sees great danger for Pauline Hanson. With the type of nutters who are protesting her meetings, the guy might be close to the truth.

The point of the matter is that One Nation is more than just Ms. Hanson. Should anything ever happen to her (God forbid), then the questions, ideas and proposals she has raised would surely continue. Many descent people, who have kept quite so far, would no longer sit back if anything did happen to her.

Believe it or not, the true spirit of Australia is still alive and well. I'm talking about Fair Go for all, Pay your own way, The work ethic, "Give me a hand up.. not a hand out" and stick by your mates are to name just a few fruits of this spirit.

Stay safe Ms. Hanson and let the Government continue with their politically correct mental masturbation.

Scientists believe that they have found the strongest signal yet to support the theory of "global warming".

Australian National University researcher David Stern and Boston University associate professor Robert Kaufmann have studied temperature records for the northern and southern hemispheres from 1865 to 1994.

Their studies show that earth's average surface temperature has increased by 0.6 degrees Celsius over the past 100 years.

Personal trivia, from the global office:

Another gorgeous... if not cold day. Sunny outside but temperatures dropped to about three degrees celcius overnight.

Have a great day.
