International:

What a disaster.

Aussie star sprinter Dean Capobianco found positive after a drug test in the lead up to the Olympics.

Once hailed as the "world's fastest white man" his reputation now lays in ruins. His parents were interviewed from Perth on television last night - and were obviously distraught about the findings.

Mrs Capbobianco said, " Dean was sobbing because he just couldn't believe something like this could happen."

The synthetic steriod Stanozolol appears to be the drug at issue - the same drug which led to 100 metre sprinter Ben Johnson's demise.

Dean has now gone into hiding and has been excluded, pending the outcome of an enquiry, from the Australian Olympic Team.

Political:

The Federal Government yesterday broke a key election promise on the ABC by slahing Au$65 million from the broadcaster's budget.

Boy, and didn't ABC Current Affiars reporter, Kerry O'Brien, sock it to him in a live interview on the 7.30 Report last night! Calling the Senator everything short of a lyer!

The Treasurer, Peter Costello, revealed yesterday that the budget would now reach a deficit of over Au$10 billion - all thanks, of course, to the Australian Labor Party.

Business:

It now looks unlikely that the Century Zinc mine will ever go ahead. It is almost as if RTZ-CRA decided that it was all getting a bit too hard.

Guess we know who will be the losers - don't think you will score browny points with your people in the long term, Mr Yanner!

In other business news over Au$7 billion was knocked off the share market yesterday - and those poor Commonwealth Bank investors could now buy the highly sought after shares for 14 cents lower than their Friday issue price.

Yeeouch...

Sport:

In an ironic twist poor Malcolm Allen who knocked Kieren Perkins out of representing Australia in the 400 metres freestyle has now gashed his foot and could miss his opportunity - allowing Perkins to take his place at the Olympics.

Asked if he was prepared to take over Perkins said, "If Malcolm Allen came up to me and said 'I can't swim the 400 metre', then I'd swim it."

Personal trivia, from the global office:

Another day in the big smoke ahead. Cold overnight, but it starting to warm up now.
