James Packer comments in blue... ABC Reporter: Cabinet decision has, in the public mind, been reduced to will the government allow Kerry Packer to buy Fairfax. And if anything James Packer’s Friday interview (on A Current Affair) has only served to underline that notion.
“Obviously one of the reasons we are talking tonight is because I want to put forward and our group wants to put forward the reasons why we believe we should be allowed to buy Fairfax,” James Packer.
ABC Reporter: The tactic though may have been too heavy handed a back bench committee on media ownership met last night and members observed what Packer had given them as what they called a crystal ball. The Packers could use their media outlets for political and economic gain as if to counter that perception James Packer was at it again this morning on Melbourne radio and the message this time we may have the clout but we don’t exercise it.
“And if there was ever a time when we had a lot to lose as a family, as an organisation, at that last election (March 1993). It is fairly well known that Paul Keating ummmm... and me father had had a bit of a blue and Keating has got a reputation for being a vengeful man so we weren’t looking forward to the retribution as a family if Paul Keating got back into office. If there was ever a time we would try to influence Channel 9 to be pro-Liberal to be biased in its coverage it would have been at the last election. I asked Cheryl Kernot what she thought of our coverage of the last election. You know what she said?” James Packer.
Radio interviewer, “No.”
James Packer, “Down the middle and fair.”
ABC Reporter: But newspapers are a different matter. They do take up an editorial line at election times.
“Well I think that’s up to editor. That’s up to the editor. As a newspaper proprietor I would observe the right to speak to the editor and say why do you take that view?” James Packer.
ABC Reporter: And if editors were to ask him for a range of views this, presumably, is what he would tell them:
“I think John Howard has had a good first year. I think this year’s going to be a test for him,” James Packer.
ABC Reporter: On Peter Costello.
“The treasurer has addressed the tax system to the benefit of Australia so far but within a fairly limited opportunity. I am a believer that governments will come back and look at GST.” James Packer (Now let us remember that dad Kerry Packer is fighting an unpaid bill of Au$143 bill sent to him by the Australian Tax Office).
ABC Reporter: And speaking of GST - his thoughts on Jeff Kennett.
“I think Jeff Kennett has done a terrific job for Victoria.” James Packer.
ABC Reporter: But those views are not intended to influence - that’s not the Packer’s style. But that’s how one former employee now a politician sees it.
Independent MP Peter Andren, “When I was a news producer in Channel 9 at the time of Gough Whitlam’s dismissal Mr Kerry Packer was very interventionist as far as I am concerned by ringing me during a bulletin while I was putting it to air and asking why a Dough Anthony item bulletin in preference to Mr Whitlam and that interfered in my work to get that bulletin to air and also on the insistence that Mr Fraser not be called the caretaker Prime Minister - it’s been only one incident of what I believe have been several that, you know, Mr Packer and his father before him have used the medium when it suited them for various purposes.”
Seems like Pauline Hanson could lose her own seat in Oxley at the next Federal election according to the latest Morgan poll.
The poll conducted on 609 voters in her Oxley seat came up with the following voting intentions:
We will summarise his budget speech tomorrow.
Congratulation, GWB!
What a relief, to see at least some of the media profession on Pauline's side. That makes me proud again of being an Australian, having found at last some honesty still around in this corrupt world. Your description of the Mainstream Media and both of the Lib's and Lab's. Parties and the Dem's thrown in as well, are spot on. Anybody with eyes in their head can see the games this people play. BUT DO THEY SEE?
Most go about their daily business without any critical assessment of what is being said or shown in the media. There are very powerful forces in our community's wielding the sword of so called political correctness to keep us subdued and perform to their standards. They control and manipulate the nation. These people are a group of very influential people, manipulating on a world wide basis.
All I can say, Citizen's of Australia, awake before it is too late!

Egon
Subject: Hanson
I thought you may be interested in the following quote:
"....when an orthodoxy is threatened by a truth, then the orthodox (people) beat down the doubt in their hearts by beating down the heretic in their midst."
John O'SULLIVAN [editor, US 'National Review'],1997, 'A Yale colloquy on race', Wall Street Journal, 17 iv, p. A22.
Sound familiar?
Australians have been nagged and preached at for decades now to be tolerant and respectful of diversity, even though we were the most tolerant people in the world BEFORE the ethnic bureaucrats ruined everything.
So where is this much vaunted tolerance? Where is the end-product of millions of tax-payer dollars? Why can't Mrs Hanson's critics practise what they have been preaching? Why don't they have the courtesy to listen to what she says? If they are so sure of their facts, why don't they simply refute her? Lets face it, name-calling and physical abuse arn't really effective substitutes for a convincing argument.
What happened at Geelong (and Tasmania) was a disgrace. And the very fact that the news has been censored - BY OMISSION - is an even bigger disgrace. That the police cannot do anything is a disgrace. That we all know that the media would be in a frenzy if a black man, let alone a black woman, were to be the subject of so much vilification and even harrassment - but it's OK to get Pauline - is a disgrace.
All of which demonstrates the truth of her assertions - our country is going down the drain morally, socially, politically, and economically.
I have written a few letters to the Australian in support of Mrs Hanson. I am a literate person, and usually make my letters brief, cogent, and even humourous. Because of these self-imposed limitations I usually have a good 'strike rate', but there's been no success with any letter supporting Mrs Hanson. Why? Because I'm literate?

Antonia

Subject: Susie Maroney - UPDATE
Many of you have been asking about the identity of the man shown in the water with Susie as she walked out of the surf. This was Dr. Stein, Susie's personal physician. He actually jumped in the water and swam the last few yards alonside of her.
Traffice to the web site has continued to be very strong, just be patient and keep trying. Please don't hesitate to phone with any questions. If I can answer them I will.
Many of you have also asked about when the press conference will be. At this moment I don't have any info, though you can be sure that there will be one. You will be the first to know as soon as a schedule is announced.
Susie is slated to be on CNN INTERNATIONAL - a special half hour show, American Journal TODAY, Dateline NBC, Good Morning America, the Today Show, the list goes on.
We will continue to keep all of you up to date. It is difficult to express in mere words the admiration we all have, as part of Susie's Team. It is rare to ever come in contact with someone who has truly achieved greatness. Today we are all so jaded and cynical about the human spirit. Having to make this swim twice makes her victory all the more inspiring. To not give up. To do what no one else has done. To simply accomplish a goal for the sake of the challenge. We can all learn a lesson from this courageous 22 year old.
G'Day,
