International:

Alleged paedophile on the run, millionaire Philip Bell, is expected to follow in Christopher Skase's footsteps. Skase, a disgraced Australian businessman who swindled millions of dollars from shareholder in his public company in the 1980s, is in hiding in Spain where extradition laws protect him. Since going into hiding somewhere in Europe Bell has taunted both the New South Wales Premier and Police with phone calls saying: "You will never catch me".

Political:

Seems like the dole bludgers of Kiwiland have had their day in Australia. One of the great loopholes in Australian law was a Trans Tasman agreement between Australia and New Zealand through which Kiwis (New Zealanders) would have an extended holiday on the Australian mainland at the expense of the Australian tax payer. The new Federal Coalition have now ended the great facade saying that, like other immigrants, Kiwis will have to wait two years before receiving the dole. It is estimated that this move will save the Australian taxpayer over Au$100 million in the next 3 years!

Business:

The Queensland property market is at last set for a sluggish recovery with early signs supporting a recovery over the next 12 months. Residential sales activity has risen 7% since the middle of last year from 50,500 to nearly 54,000. The market apparently bottomed in early 1995. Great time to buy quality housing!

Sport:

The new Australian super racehorse, Octagonal, is now valued at over Au$8 million after a dramatic victory in the "Derby of the Decade" at Randwick yesterday. Octagonal has won 4 major races in a row putting him on a par with the great Phar Lap.

Social:

Many men suffer with an obsession with exercise, damaging their physical and mental health, a leading Australian psychologist has warned. Dr Paul Folkes, who is director of an eating disorders program, said compulsive exercise could be fatal. More than two hours of regular exercise a day is classified as compulsive - except for professional sportsmen or women.

Personal trivia:

The weather at this time of the year is quite amazing. Once again we are having beautifulf sunny days and pleasant temperatures. For anyone thinking of coming to Queensland for a holiday, this is definitely the time of the year to do it. The easter bunny arrived on cue with an easter egg foe Alex this morning.. I can here self-satisfied munching in the background from the cyber-kid!
