[MURDER BY MEDIA, DEATH OF DEMOCRACY IN AUSTRALIA]

from an Aussie's viewpoint on Australia's first daily Internet newspaper.
Since October 1995

The launch of "Murder by Media, Death of Democracy in Australia" takes place next week.

Some 20 copies of the book are being posted to selected members of the media today - the first batch of books having just been received.

Globalisation is NOT good

The picture I am going to paint is not good and it includes some predictions for 1999 which are even worse.

The picture is based on earlier "predictions" covered below in archived articles - predictions about Brazil which are now reality. Brazil is fast becoming a financial basket case with unemployment and poverty the end result of the unregulated raping and pillaging of its economy by greed-inspired multinationals and currency traders resulting in an unpayable deficit in its balance of payments.

Australia is on its way to mirroring the Brazilian experience.

In the first two articles below you will see how these poverty stricken countries now serve as little more than a human pool of cheap labour for the multinationals. For example, Australians have sat back complacetently and watched as our orange industry has been decimated by cheap orange juice imports labelled "product of Australia" by dominant retailers like Woolworths and Coles Myer because they are packaged here.

We have watched as our manufacturing industry has been allowed to fall on the sword of "expensive" labour because in Asia multinationals - who have acquired  these once profitable Australian businesses - have closed them down and re-opened in countries like Vietnam where the salaries of 100 employees at $30 per month - or just one Australian worker.

Here is an extract from an article by Buchanan:

The folks marching through Weirton don't know it, but they are being sacrificed to the gods of the Global Economy. Their taxes are backing $160 billion in loans to Indonesia, South Korea, Russia and Brazil, even as those countries dump steel into the U.S. market and kill the jobs of the men and women who work in Weirton....

In the tiny West Virginia town of Weirton, population 22,000, thousands marched last week to save Weirton Steel, the heart of their community. If the steel plant goes under, and its 4,400 workers lose their jobs, the town dies. It is as simple as that.

What is threatening Weirton Steel and every other steel plant in the USA? In a word, imports, which in August equaled 35 percent of U.S. steel consumption, up 50 percent from a year ago.

Who is dumping into our market to save their steel industries by killing ours? Japan, South Korea, Russia, Indonesia and Brazil.

Here is an extract from the article by Graham Strachan:

Now the government stands by while Australian farmers bulldoze orange trees, and the country imports orange juice from Brazil. It is important to note, however, that ‘Brazil’ does not mean Brazilian peasant farmers, it means multinational-owned orange plantations. This is how the multinational global takeover hides behind humanitarian-sounding slogans. The gullible think ‘giving preference to exports from developing countries’ means a hand-up to the underdog. Far from it. ‘Exports from developing countries’ more often than not means ‘exports from MNCs operating in developing countries’. Most Brazilians probably can’t even afford to buy their own orange juice, in the same way that locally harvested seafood is now beyond the reach of many Australians.

With a hostile Laboral government in Australia pandering to the will of the multinationals the writing is on the wall for this country. With our foreign debt at incredibly high levels - nearly Au$300 billion it will not take much more than a single currency call for a Jewish parasite like George Soros to send our currency, like Brazil's, to the wall. In fact I am not making a prediction I am making a statement of what is in store for us based on the recent past. Soros screwed Britain in the 1980s - heralding the birth of economic rationalism through Maggie Thatcher; screwed Asian economies over the last two years where hundreds of millions now live in poverty as a result; screwed Brazil in recent days - yes, we are next in Soros' sick sights - our foreign debt makes us a sitting duck.

And he will destroy our economy, because in his and other little, sick brains greed at any cost is good. Forget how this will effect your family or your life - that in the words of National Australia Bank's Don Argus is just "emotional claptrap".

Australians just do not realise the parlous state that we are in right here and now. We are literally on the edge of joining Brazil (which once had a thriving economy) in the junk heap of poverty and third world living standards.

The irony will be that the rural sector, already decimated by the impact of economic rationalism will hardly feel the tremors as Australian business just falls flat on its proverbial face. The big impact will be in the cities as thousands of service industries find that their clients have disappeared over night. Millions of people will be retrenched and poverty will hit this country like a brick wall as Soros and his mates play Russian roulette with our lives behind a single computer screen, with little more than the occasional nudge in the wrong direction by way of buying or selling billions of Australian dollars creating the havoc that people never see and which the papers never report on.

People in the city will one day reflect on what Pauline Hanson had to say about saving this country and when they do eventually wake up, when the bank calls in their loans sending them to the wall, they will see that those "simpletons" from the bush bore a message that their cocooned lifestyles sheltered them from and their own stupidity and self-centeredness blinded them from.

Oh what an irony!

Here is an extract from the article by Strachan:

The Mexican Sting was followed by a $141 billion bailout in Asia, to which Australian taxpayers were made to contribute around $5 billion. Then Russia had to be bailed out to the tune of $20 billion in 1998 alone. Now there is a possible $30 billion required for Brazil, and thereafter who knows? Japan, China, and probably Mexico again. To make sure the victims don’t wake up that they are being defrauded, the sole purpose now of the Western media is to keep the people ignorant, to prevent them understanding anything of any consequence, to keep them in the dark or distracted with sex, sport, and the private lives of people like Princess Diana. Economics is portrayed as being beyond human comprehension, even of the best brains in the world. It’s ‘just happening’. Like the weather. Now, in these international financial markets, hedge funds, such as George Soros', his own operations, were dominant. And, Europeans, and others, particularly those who were against the United States, or U.S. traders who joined with Europeans in this kind of thing, had joined against the countries of Southeast Asia, which had been dollar-pegged currency bloc countries, against Taiwan, attempts against Hong Kong, against Japan, and against Korea, with China, and Russia, and Brazil, and Argentina targets for the near future down the way.

Here is an extract from the Lyndon La Rouche interview:

Well, this Soros, of course, is a pestilence, is very dangerous. He's a British-controlled entity, who is used by them, largely against the United States. He's on the non-wanted list, because of his association with promoting drug trafficking, by our drug czar's office, among others. He's closely tied to all kinds of filthy things around the world, and he is a marker of the kind of hedge fund insanity, which has triggered the Asia crisis. {That is, Prime Minister Mahathir of Malaysia in no way exaggerated, in no way mis-fired, in pinpointing George Soros as the key figure, or the typical key figure in what was done to Malaysia and other southeast Asian countries.} And those in the United States, who defended Soros, were being either ignorant, stupid, or just plain misguided, in some other sense.

In comes the IMF, and says, "What you must do, is, you must wreck your economy, in order to influence these financial markets." Now, what are the financial markets? They're nothing but bloodsuckers, parasites, gamblers, what the Nobel Prize-winner Maurice Allais referred to as a "casino economy," {casino mondiale}. So, as long as we continue to say that these irregular financial markets by gamblers, will determine the value of a national currency, not what the currency's value is, in terms of the goods you can purchase from it, that is, the goods it produces --as long as we allow that to go on, you're going to have this insanity going on.

Land Councils

In your news report on Tim Fischer, you explained how he called the Aboriginal National Land Councils "autocratic and out of touch". This will come as quite a shock to those who watched the TV news I watched yesterday. There was no mention of Mr Fischer's attack on the Land Councils. In fact, the entire reports that I have seen focussed on the "traditional owners" (since 1985) requesting people not to walk on top of Ayer's Rock (because let's not delude ourselves, this is what Australians call that thing).

This is how the media fool people. By giving importance to something that is totally unimportant (in context) and carefully hidding away the real news. The guilt industry is alive and well.

While I'm here, I may add to the letter I sent you a couple of days ago on Microsoft. Yesterday, I had a meeting with a representative of a software company. They now include a disclaimer in the memo sent to all dealers. They do not accept any responsibility for the package misbehaving if it is run on Windows 98. They recommend people run the last Windows 95 version with twice the memory needed to be on the safe side. Guess why Bill Gates does not run Windows 95 or 98 on his machine....

RELIGION AS A CORE SUBJECT IN SCHOOLS The Hon Minister for Education

Parliament House,

Dear Minister,

Please confirm that your government has assessed the success of the British experiment, introduced by former Prime Minister,Margaret Thatcher, under which students are required to study religion as a basic subject taught by academics(not by religious).

Local publicity about this arrangement was given on "the best of LNL" on ABC Radio National recently.

Undoubtedly the Teachers Federation, which is always looking to extend its influence, will perceive such a plan as having potential beyond the purely political opportunism of the Thatcher move.

Some evidence is accruing to show that students graduating in this religion subject become far better citizens with discernible ethical and moral standards which they apply in the business and other areas of endeavour.

Sincerely,
J O N M. A X T E N S

Council matters

The Mayor and
The General Manager,
Lismore City Council,
LISMORE N.S.W. 2480

Dear Mayor & GM,

Under instructions from our Principals, we write to congratulate you and your Council on the decision, currently being described in the circulating intelligence as a very courageous move, to implement the proposal, to call tenders for the early provision of a subsidized tram or light rail service within Lismore city. Presumably the track will be laid along the ridge of the flood levee banks where appropriate.

Certainly there is much logic in providing, a private enterprise funded, reasonably priced access for the ratepayers and citizens to the large and growing number of facilities now being duly authorised by Council to be located outside the immediate (easy walking or wheelchair distance) area of the Central Business District.

Failure, by former Councils, to agitate fiercely to prevent the, Liberal and Labor Federal and State, Governments from withdrawing their departmental and QANGOs' offices and officers, and the cash flow represented, from the Lismore area has undoubtedly had an adverse effect on the number of citizens who can continue to afford to maintain their own motor vehicles or meet the cost of Taxi fares. They all,at one time or another, seek, or need, to visit the Council Chambers, the Southern Cross University (and its, ratepayer funded, proposed heated indoor Olympic standard swimming pool complex?), the Australia Post Shops, the various Social and Sporting Clubs, the Neighbourhood Centres and the Chain Stores (or shopping malls).

Victoria's Kennett-led State Government has, if we are to believe the media coverage, done some significant research, in the United Kingdom and elsewhere, into "privatization" of systems (including trams) that provide, probably only temporarily subsidized, public transport. It appears that there may even be a future for some of our sons and daughters in employment as ticket selling conductors, tour guides and crowd controllers.

Given that the service is likely to be provided by vehicles powered by electric current, rather than polluting petrol or diesel motors, our Principals wonder whether it is Council's intention to cover Lismore as comprehensively and effectively as they understand tthat the City Council (or State Government?) covers Perth in Western Australia.

Our Principals ask that you take an early opportunity, through the local media, to spell out the likely routes that such a tram or light rail track would be expected to traverse, the frequency of services and whether there is likely to be a greater or lesser number of such services during weekends or late at night.

In anticipation of a prompt and quite detailed reply, our Primcipals direct us to thank you.

Sincerely,
J o n M. A x t e n s
