Day by day reports on the Constitutional Conventional reports by Peter Mackay

International:

So, where's the promised apology Mr Lynch.

Readers will recall that I reported that I received a phone call from the General Manager of the Australian Council for the Arts, Mr Michael Lynch, saying that he would apologise in writing in an email that would be published in this daily newspaper.

The reason it has not appeared is because the email from Michael Lynch has not been sent.

Neither will it, I believe, be sent.

Here you have the height of bureaucratic bull****. If you make a mistake, you make promises, do not keep it/them and hope that the problem will go away.

After it took nearly 100 hours of concerted effort to get this organisation to remove a pornographic image of Pauline Hanson from an on-line website that Lynch manages. Neither he, nor his politically correct committee, deserve to be holding positions of public trust in that organisation any more.

It is only because of the News Limited monopoly that we have in our media that they were able to try to dig this disgusting little state of affairs under a politically correct carpet with virtually no reporting of the event in the media.

Now imagine if the doctored image had been a picture of a politically correct symbolic head (such as an Aborigine) superimposed on an image of a nude female body giving birth to a white baby on a web site associated with Pauline Hanson... the world would have shaken, the television channels would be scouring the depths of Sydney Harbour looking for someone to comment and News Limited, well  greed and power driven Murdoch's News Limited would have had newspaper headlines like: "Racist pornography displayed on Hanson website". The story would have run for weeks, been analysed by slave-like journalists wanting to earn a crust and have been used as another reason supporting the fallacy that Pauline Hanson is a racist bigot.

Well let me tell you something Mr Lynch. I personally emailed a copy of that image to Channel 7 News (Brisbane) earlier this month - at their request. They were going to run a story on it - but, because the image on the site you managed carried was so obscene, they canned the story.

Now I know that for a fact because I spoke to the Channel 7 newsroom soon after they received the email.

Well I am saying that that is not good enough Mr Lynch. My taxes pay for you to hold that 'politically correct' position at the Australian Council for the Arts and I hate every cent of my money that gets thrown your way because I do not agree with some of the trash that your organisation funds. Yes, that's right Mr Lynch trash.

I am calling for my readers to send the Australian Council for the Arts an email calling on Michael Lynch to apologise. Tell him where to find this web page. (http://www.gwb.com.au/gwb/news/daily.html)

Let us declare war on political correctness and the travesty that it perpetrates on good, decent Australians raised in the dying values of happy families free of lesbian and gay influences that the Australia Council for the Arts see as a top "politically correct" target group.

Send your email to Mr Lynch's bureaucratic internet interface. Demand that apology to the Australian National News of the Day - demand that the Australian Council for the Arts apologise on the "I'm so sorry Pauline" page. They should and they must if they are not to be seen as bigots.

Here we are, typical Aussies, being told we should apologise for the so-called "stolen-generation/children" which happened before we were born (and we discover largely in the interests of their own welfare) while here and now a highly regarded, elected federal MP, Pauline Hanson, is displayed in a pornographic image on a website managed by the Australian Council for the Arts. This organisation would now hide behind the shield of the media barons while using political correctness and claiming "artistic expression" to justify their stance for displaying the image.

I say that this is un-Australian. I say that this is not a fair go. I say that the Australian Council for the Arts, like ATSIC should be disbanded - NOW!

Here is a copy of the email I sent to Mr Lynch last night:

Dear sir,

Please advise Mr Lynch, GM of the Australian Council for the Arts we will not just disappear.

We are outraged at:

a) the placement of a pornographic image of Pauline Hanson, a federally elected member of parliament on a web page managed by you.

b) that the image was on the web site for a number of days (even after we and our readers had alerted the minister for Telecommunications and the Arts - Senator Alston of the situation)

c) that despite personal assurances over ten days ago from your General Manager Mr Michael Lynch by phone I have not yet received an email from your him apologising to Pauline Hanson and the shocked readers of my widely read Internet page "Australian National News of the Day".

d) I personally believe that the entire "politically correct" board of the Australian Council for the Arts should resign over this incident.

We, on behalf of mainstream Australians, will continue to report on this "politically correct" travesty until you rectify the situation.

Hanson Bridges Divide

Well the politically correct must be squirming in their proverbial seats today - especially in Adelaide after this report appeared in the Adelaide Advertiser on Saturday (14th February 1998)

Aborigines welcome outspoken MP
by Paul Stanick

Ms Pauline Hanson hugged disaffected Aborigines yesterday as they hailed her as a Messiah-like figure.

The outspoken MP, arriving for a four day tour, embraces Miss Amelia Campbell and others wanting to scrap the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission.

Miss Campbell - one of the dissident women who challenged the veracity of "women's business" on Hindmarsh Island - trumpeted Miss Hanson as a leader of Aboriginal people.

"She's the one that I prayed to get," she said, then hugged the MP beneath the Australian flag.

At a fiery conference at her One Nation Party's Adelaide headquarters, Ms Hanson repeated her calls to abolish ATSIC.

She vowed to consult with "Aboriginal Australians" during the next few months to ensure they get the help "they truly need".

Amid applause from members of Miss Campbell's Ngarrindjeri tribe, she said this consultation would unearth the best way to help Aborigines.

"What I would like to see in the Outback and in the communities is to have a roaming medical and education unit to actually service these areas," she said.

An ATSIC spokesman declined to respond directly to Ms Hanson, saying "the vast majority of Australians do not take her views seriously".

Ms Hanson will speak today at Npardunga, Dover Gardens, Gawler, Waikerie and Berri. Tomorrow in Naracoorte, Port Lincoln and Kadina.   See Ms Hanson's press release on ATSIC.

Three Federal MPs plan to join Pauline Hanson's One Nation

Three National MPs, sickened with the bigotry and dishonesty of the Coalition in its treatment to the voters of Australia, intend to join Pauline Hanson's One Nation before the next Federal Election - due later this year.

I cannot tell you who they are at this stage - despite speculation being rife. The important issue is that they are politicians with integrity and sincere concerns about where our great country is going.

Now the Anglicans are apologising to the "stolen children".

The Anglican Church has joined the chorus of politically correct bodies calling for the Australian Government to apologise for the treatment by Australia of the "stolen children" generations ago.

The motion was passed by the General Synod in a meeting at the Hotel Adelaide yesterday. The synod took the opportunity to apologise unreservedly on behalf of the church and seek forgiveness for any part that it might have played in the trauma "caused by the unjustified removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families.

The church also apologised for its silence on the issue in the past - both motions being passed unanimously.. and applauded.

It was the first time the church as a body had said "sorry" to the stolen children... that reminds me, have you signed the "I'm so sorry Pauline" on-line book yet? Far more relevant.

The unpleasant face of Big Mac

If you have a McDonald's store in your neighbourhood then you have one of the most aggressive proponents of MAI right on your doorstep.

This fastfood store which advertises with feelgood ads carefully targeted at different community groups has dirty hands, very dirty hands.

The "golden arches" that dominate so many of our skylines are often erected after long and expensive legal battles with councils... who normally give way under the financial might of this multinational.

However in Port Douglas McDonalds lost the battle and is now reviewing whether it will go ahead with the Au$500,000 restaurant.

The Mayor of Port Douglas, Mike Berwick, described the win as a landmark decision for the small 3,500 strong community saying, "There's invariably a small percentage of developers, McDonald's included, who want to operate outside the planning scheme and they fight you in court and it costs us a huge amount of money to defend ourselves.

"What we object to is the garish architecture and loud appearance generally and really, the world is full of Gold Coasts but there's not too many Douglas Shires left on this planet.

"Our popularity as a tourist destination is based on our distinction."

Judge Francis Daly ruled against McDonald's putting up a 7.5 metre by 2.4 metre pylon sign saying that it went against the council's control development plans. McDonalds have declined to comment at this stage.

As Barry Appleton, of Appleton and Associates International Lawyers states on the multilateral agreement on investment (MAI) and councils:

Municipal Licenses

The MAI’s obligations extend to the governmental allocation of concessions and licenses. Thus, issues regarding the awarding of licenses can be the basis of an investor-state dispute. Indeed, the refusal of a municipal government in Mexico to issue a civic license for a waste facility is currently the basis of a $90 million NAFTA expropriation action.

Land Use Regulation

Municipal policies respecting land use regulation regularly impose costs upon investors. Changes in zoning that could restrict the use of land, even including historic designation, could result in effective claims under international law definitions of expropriation. While under domestic law, there can be no compensation for losses caused by changes in land use regulation; this is not true under international agreements such as the NAFTA or the MAI.

Under MAI the Port Douglas council would go insolvent if McDonald's took them to the international court over their sign. Remember Australia is expected to sign MAI in May this year.

MULTILATERAL AGREEMENT ON INVESTMENT

There is currently a misunderstandings about the real implications of the US position in refusing to sign the Multilateral Agreement on Investment (MAI) in April. Far from being a victory for those who have worked hard to dissuade governments from participating in the MAI, this move by the US is a strategic position which they have adopted on other occasions (eg the Uruguay Round of GATT negotiations) with extremely good effect.

What the US is actually saying is that they are not prepared to sign the Agreement in its current form because it doesn't go far enough. The issue for the US is that a number of countries are entering reservations in some significant areas which limit the ability of other countries to export particular kinds of goods to those countries; eg the European Union countries are attempting to retain a number of protections for certain of their own industries to European Union countries. Another example of course is the so-called Treaty reservation entered by New Zealand which is aimed at protecting (albeit temporarily) Maori industrial and cultural enterprise.

In refusing to sign the MAI as it stands, the US is sending a very strong message to all participating countries that they had better `shape up' and significantly reduce the number and form of their reservations. In other words, the position is aimed at getting the other countries into line with the US aims.

(It is worth noting that during the Uruguay Round of the GATT Agreement) General Agreement on Trades and Tariffs) and the MAI the US kept in place for itself a significant number of protections for its own industries. Australia, on the other hand, kept in place practically none.)

An interesting racial twist in the US move relates to native title exceptions. The US is now putting tremendous pressure on countries to reduce or remove their reservations which means that the Australian government will also be under pressure. A recent example is the reported comments of the US Chamber of Commerce stating that Australia's Resource Management Act is a barrier to foreign investment. Consequently the Resource Management is being redefined, ostensibly in the name of `efficiency'.

For Aborigines, some of the concerns are that issues such as Mabo native title rights and cultural and intellectual property rights are under threat even more, as is the reservation for Aboriginal commercial and industrial enterprise such as Ayers Rock.

It is critical for Australia as a whole that people are not misled by the US government's strategy to exert pressure on governments but continue to lobby for the government's immediate and permanent withdrawal from negotiations for an agreement that removes the last vestiges of sovereignty from the government.

IMF threatens President Suharto for trying to break their hold.

The head of the International Monetary Fund, Michel Camdessus, has written to the President of Indonesia threatening to cut off the IMF's US$43 billion lifeline if the country goes ahead with pegging its currency against the US dollar.

This move would stop currency speculation and the big moves in the value of the currency against the US dollar.

Camdessus says in his letter, "In the current circumstances... If a currency board proposal were adopted, we would not be able to recommend to the IMF board the continuation of the present programme, because of the risks to the Indonesian economy.

"This would be a very unfortunate development, as it would shrink even further the reserve basis for the currency board and undermine its very slim chances of success.

Starfleet Commander Bill Clinton concurred with the IMF's point of view saying that Suharto should give up on the idea.

Meanwhile violence resulting from the country's currency crisis has continued to spread with the armed forces now being forced to watch as looters plunder the stores and businesses of the wealthy Indo-Chinese population.

Quite remarkable that one man can dictate the terms and conditions of the sovereign use of another country's currency as if it was a cookie in a jar just waiting to be swallowed up.

How far has this world already gone!

Dear Sir

It was refreshing to read the letter from one of the original old war horses. This man has probably forgot more than we will ever know about the New World Order.

The sad fact of the matter is that what he writes is true.

That farce of a convention they just held doesn't matter. What the Australian people want, doesn't matter. Whether Pauline Hanson is a good or bad Politician doesn't matter. What DOES MATTER is that Australia WILL play its part in the Global scheme of things to come.

Here are a few facts of life;

Ask your readers if they are happy with the Government we have. Ask them why they threw out Labour.

We Australians will grumble and whinge but we will not change a thing. We don't have the power to change a thing. All we can do is vote for Labour or Liberal once every few years. And that little exercise doesn't even make us feel important any more.

When the movers and shakers make the changes they want, we will accept them with open arms. And you know why???? Because the Rays of the world and the daily rags will tell us "...This is good..."

Best of luck, Australia

Subject: Comments on Australia's First President.

Hi There

It was reported in this mornings Sunday Times (Perth) that Paul Keating led the vote for the President by 12%.

I was under the impression that the with the election of Howard in 1996 that the people had a skinfull of Keating's leadership. It seems as though the majority were not satisfied with five years of this despot's reign.

Heaven help this nation if Keating was to be elected. He will probably surrender to the Indonesians or the foreigners who will be setting up the One World Government.

Here is a site that you will find worth while to visit: http://www.inforamp.net/~jwhitley. This is a site that has been set up by a group to expose the One World Movement. I recommend it as a good resource for material on the happenings with the elite of the Media and the political parties.

Subject: You can't even spell "Yunupingu"!

Your hate site might find the time to disclose the full story behind this case. I realise that there's a lot of work involved for the lonely bigot who spends his time distorting these stories to suit your agenda, but the facts are easily available in the real press.

Yunupingu suffers blood pressure problems, and returned to the court the next day . The plaintiff was intruding into tribal territory and disregarding cultural traditions of long standing. Would you welcome a strange photographer into your home to photograph your naked children for an undisclosed purpose?

Your feeble attempt to link this to the Queensland National Party pigs caught with their snouts in the trough is ridiculous.

Pray, tell me then about the allegations regarding his "taxpayer funded" credit card spending habits.

Please excuse this blatant advertorial from our local news editor...

Subject: THE LOCAL BULLETIN our Independent Community Newspaper response

Good to see you and your better half have the latest edition and give the last word in the News of the Day to the 'THE LOCAL BULLETIN' the only S.W. Queensland local Independent Community Newspaper delivered free to all homes between The Kenmore roundabout and going west as far as the Warrego Highway. The S.W Queensland area renowned to be full of incredibly talented people running all kinds of businesses like producing a real life newspaper such as THE LOCAL BULLETIN for example, or others less significant so called internet newspapers which have great difficulty reaching anyone except their mother, children and occasional web trawler looking for free Picts! ........and now having the cheek to charge for the so called privilege!
( Sorry Scott I couldn't resist that one!...)

The cover story for the February edition of THE LOCAL BULLETIN featured Mr & Mrs Arvind Bhasin after the Australia Day ceremony where they were presented with their Australian Citizenship Certificate.

The now proud Australian Citizens Mr & Mrs Arvind who originally hail from India reassured THE LOCAL BULLETIN that they spoke english extremely well and wished to thank all other Australians for the opportunity to be able to come to this great country to live and raise a family.

As editor of THE LOCAL BULLETIN I would have to say that you couldn't do worse than to regularly feature THE LOCAL BULLETIN as a good example of how a real local newspaper can work with the community.

Watch out for next months edition of THE LOCAL BULLETIN we will be featuring a story on a local Brookfield resident who if she makes it to the year 2000 will have had a life that has spanned 3 millennium..Yes its true!....

She reveals the 'secret' to us all of this amazing longevity and how we can all attain it.

Get the March edition of THE LOCAL BULLETIN this and other local stories will astound and amaze you And its FREE!!!!!!!...................................

Oh! just one last thing Scott... How come your not supporting Ipswich Councillor Paul Tully in his stand on the 'Republic' What he has to say makes some sense if you take the time to think about it!

That is if you can put your professional opinion in front of your private opinion ?................

Barry Sampson Searle (ed TLB).........just an ordinary bloke, doing the best he can to serve the people!

No competition for counting nine references to the name of his newspaper... by the way, it's free indeed but full of advertising and advertorials... like the above! But it is a good rag and Barry is a good ocker Aussie... even if he does interrupt my morning run to gas on.

No more about THE LOCAL BULLETIN, Barry, please no more. I have given your free punt!

The contraversial picture of THE LOCAL BULLETIN being read at the best time (in the dark) can be seen on the right.

This is a popular activity of Karana Downs residents who are looking for non-medical forms of inspiring sleep. Thus this image of a resident reading THE LOCAL BULLETIN while eating dinner is rare indeed....

My God, it must be a reflection on the company (me)!
