International:

Phillip Bell the man allegedly guilty of over one hundred reports of paedophile behaviour is to be deported and flown back to Sydney in the next few days after being arrested in South Africa.

Bell has been living in the Jeffrey Bay house for about two months but was planning to fly to Spain to attempt to gain the same sort of sanctity that master conman and failed businessman Skase had been able to.

Bell has been on the run since soon after being named at the Royal Commission last March as a paedophile who abused boys as young as 11.

Political:

Australian Democrat leader Cheryl Kernot yesterday portrayed Prime Minister John Howard as a failed leader who was deliberately throwing young Australian on the jobs scrapheap. She said Howard stood for selfishness, greed, the promotion of social division and the "insidious shift" in the nation's values.

Speaking at the 20th Anniversary conference of the Australian Democrats Kernot definitely wanted to be the "belle of the ball" - the founder of the party - Don Chipp was not even invited. The official explanation was that somehow "his invitation got lost in the mail" but the most likely explanation was that the new female dynamos who make up much of the Democrat leadership did not want to be upstaged on the night by the founder.

Strange attitude to take for one who is trying to portray such a "moralistic" attitude. Kernot batted away criticism from the founder. Chipp was described by Kernot as very "much a Liberal" after he had expressed concern about the manner in which the Democrats had handled the Telstra and industrial relations debates during 1996.

"We've agreed to differ," Kernot said.

You say:

Subject: thanks.
First of all let me thank autralian coast gards for what they've done to rescue Tony Bullimore, Raphael Dinelli and Thierry Dubois. They were really "great".

Let me tell you that the oceans are the "last space of freedom" and when you are sailing there is no more nationality. there is no more french , german , american or australian there is just humans.

Merci encore.

Sport:

The Pakistani batsmen and bowlers humbled the might of the West Indies in the first of the final three series one day cricket matches yesterday.

Campbell and Murray came out firing when the West Indies went into bat scoring 99 before the first wicket fell... but from there on it was all down hill with the team being bundled out for 179 - and Lara (after two centuries and a 90) going for a duck!

Shahid Afridi and Ahmed Snr top scored for the Pakistanis who sailed home with 185 in under 40 of the alloted 50 overs.

Personal trivia, from the global office:

We had fabulous rain yesterday, soft and lasting. Today we have a cool change with overcast skies punctuated by rays of the sun, cool winds ripping up the valley - and a generally pleasant day ahead.

Have a great day.
