International:

Those b*****y French are at it again! They exploded their largest nuclear bomb in our backyard yesterday. It was the sixth in the current series, and let me tell you - if you are French or in France it is doing absolutely nothing for your reputation not only among the Aussies but right through the South Pacific. The actions of your politicians is lowering the excellent reputation of France daily. And guess what - your French Ambassador in Australia, Dominique Girard, when summonsed to comment on the latest outrage REFUSED TO CONFIRM THAT IT WOULD BE THE LAST.
Paul Keating hit the nail on the head when he said: "If, as the Fench Government claims, it seeks to retain a role in the South Pacific, then it must positively respond to the demands of the nations which it would call neighbours and friends." But as far as I am concerned you guys have blown it (excuse the pun). I don't like the French because of their arrogance and my family refuse to buy anything from France.

Political:

The common theory is that Labor are going to find it hard to win at the Federal Election on March 2. Labor's campaign is heavily based on Prime Minister Paul Keating with the comment: "You might not like him, but you've got to respect him." John Howard's Liberal Party are looking at family values as a key area. The Liberal party have promised to cut small business tax and the mountains of red tape that snare any good idea or trace of government involvement.

Business:

In a bid to buy business the banks in Australia have embarked on a short term pain for long term gain strategy. The latest move in the play is by the Commonwealth Bank which is offering under-the-counter special rates in a bid to keep existing home loan business. The bank has also offered special home loan interest rates at 9.25% to customers who move their business from other banks. The average price of housing by city (in Australian Dollars) is: Sydney: $205,500. Melbourne: $150,000. Brisbane: $130,000. Perth: $129,000. Hobart: $112,000. Adelaide: $111,000.

Sport:

The men's final of the Australian Tennis Open was won by Boris Becker yesterday who overpowered Michael Chang 6-2, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2. In other tennis news it has been reported that former world no 1, Mats Wilander of Sweden, and Czech Karel Novacek have tested positive in cociane tests.

Social:

A cure for heroin and cocaine addiction could soon be produced thanks to world-first research on brain cells which control the craving for drugs. Scientists have isolated a tiny section of the brain which controls human desire and sense of reward - which is skewed when drugs are taken.

Personal trivia:

Another stinking hot day yesterday with temperatures reaching 35% celcius. We sat outside on our deck and enjoyed the views of the Brisbane River and the birdlife which always surprises me. There are always new birds to see and enjoy in the valley. We had a couple of vicious thunderstorms late yesterday afternoon they were accompanied by short, sharp winds which blew in gusts.
