The Australian cricket team are seriously reconsidering their options regarding the World Cup play-offs. The most controversial decision is the first match that is
planned to be played in Sri-Lanka. With the suicide bomber in Colombo and threats that individuals in the team have received it is becoming increasingly difficult for the Australians
to play there. If they don't they will forfeit the points in the first match in the World Cup - unless the venue is moved to either India or Pakistan. Australia is not alone,
The West Indies, Kenya and Zimbabwe are also scheduled to play matches in Sri Lanka.
Labor Prime Minister Paul Keating appears to be getting increasingly desperate to try to capture the
imagination of the Australian voter. His latest ploy is to claim that Liberal leader, John Howard, would find that Asian leaders would refuse to deal with him if he
were elected Prime Minister. A rather pompous comment I would have thought seeing that the Prime Minister represents the people of Australia not the ego
of the person elected to that position. To rub salt in the wound John Howard gave an impressive interview to the ABC's political journalist Kerry O'Brian last night.
Perhaps the most telling comment was that when Labor took power in 1983 Australia's trade deficit was Au$23 billion, now only 13 years later it is approaching
Au$200 billion.. with a major impact on keeping interest rates high in this country.
Business:
Renison Goldfields Consolidated is set to buy the bulk of associate Pancontinental Mining Ltd's non-gold assets after agreeing to pay the same value which it claimed last year
was too high.
Sport:
Golfer Greg Norman has every right to ask for appearance money according to fellow golfers. The in-fighting appears to have stemmed from that famous "Australian
Syndrome" loosely termed the tall-poppy knock down. (Try to knock a performer off his perch.) It is understood that Norman is earning US$700,000 for appearing in 3 tournaments
- the Johnnie Walker Asian Classic in Singapore; this week's Heineken Classic in Perth and next week's Ford Open at Kooyonga in South Australia.

Queensland secondary schoolgirls are as inactive as their American counterparts according to research by Brisbane sports scientists. The worst effected are girls in years 11 and 12 it has been revealed.
The report suggests that only 30% of girls in year 12 are meeting the generally accepted level of participation in sport for their age group.
Personal trivia:
We scored a rare double with our second web site in a row making it into the exclusive nitch of WHAT'S NEW under the NETSCAPE browser button option on all
Netscape browsers. THE KIDS LOCKER ROOM was originally developed as a resource for my five year old son,
but it has become very public property now! Thus is the nature of the Internet..
Well another stinker yesterday with temperatures again the late 30s. The cloud cover quickly cleared in the morning leaving an opporesive level of humidity in the house.
Once again cold showers had little effect on reducing the heat problem at night! Today? Well today looks like being much of the same.
