Today's Headlines
Friday 1st March 1996
International:
Australia yesterday presented a draft text of an international treaty which would ban all nucleur explosions. It said the model was designed
to help negotiators at the Conference of Disarmament being held in Geneva. The 102 page text was submitted by Michael Costello the
current secretary of the Foreign Affairs Department.
In the latest polling it has been revealed that nine Labor ministers face defeat in their own seats. The much disliked Federal Attorney
General, Michael Lavarche, who hold the Queensland seat of Dickson by only 2.2% is sure to be one of the casualties.
The forged letter fiasco has had a major impact on voters in the last days of the election campaign.
The Qantum Harris Poll into marginal seats shows that the Liberals now hold a massive 13 point lead 39-52 over Labor
with only 9% undecided. Seeing that a large number of seats are marginal this reflects a massive swing to the Liberal party. .
Business:
Australis Pay TV have abandoned their cut-price strategy on installations for new viewers.
The early strategy aimed at securing large numbers of viewers has resulted in large losses of Au$31.63 million in the first half of the current financial year.
The installation fee has been raised from Au$19.95 to Au$199 and monthly rates from Au$39.95 to Au$49.95.
Sport:
Defiant Super League clubs will play matches this weekend claiming that they are outside the orders issued in favour of the Australian
Rugby League (ARL) by Justice Burchett in the Federal Court on Tuesday. The Brisbane Broncos and Canberra Raiders will play against
each other in a "Charity invitation match" at the ANZ Stadium on Sunday. There is certainly something afoot as News Limited or Foxtel
(same girl different panties) paid the contracted Super League players a 3 month advance in their salaries after the court ruling.
Social:
Australians spend more than a quarter of their household food budgets on takeaways ansd restaurant meals. They spend almost
as much on cosmetics and hair care as on fuel and power and more on alcohol than on fruit and vegetables. The average Australian
weekly income, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, is Au$602. Just Au$111 of that is spent on food. Transport costs
Au$97 and recreation Au$79.
Global Gripe of the day:
Queen of Hearts or Super bitch.
I find it quite extraordinary that a very ORDINARY woman who happened to be in the right place at the right time to land up
marrying into a key cornerstone of British tradition can cause such havoc in this modern age. Diana, who is the "self-appointed"
Queen of Hearts (what a dillusion..), believes that she can accept a divorce on her terms.
Now surely, if Di was a "true" Queen of Hearts that extends into all corners of her life not just the facade that she presents so well to the press
while visiting sick kids in a hospital. Even a politician looks good in that position. There is nothing special about that. But to demand
the title of Princess of Wales until she dies in exchange for a divorce is just sick.
What does her son's (young William) wife of the future call herself while she goes old and grey?
Maybe Princess of Wales-in-waiting? Get real girl.
A Queen of Hearts does not wear two faces. A face for the media and another worn privately for the devious exploitation of the
situation at home. I believe that she is today "resting" and has cancelled appointments. Bet Di's got the scrap
book ready as someone in the media is sure to sympathise with the "trauma" that she is now going through.
I am not even bringing up Di's greedy financial demands and self-seeking buy-out conditions
as they have no traditional significance to the British way of life.
No Di you aren't a Queen of Hearts it is my perception that you are just a super bitch.
Get back in your box little girl.
Personal trivia:
A nice cool day yesterday. Plenty of rain around at the moment. Tomorrow we take young Alex off to the Koala Hospital so that he can
meet Max in the flesh.
