If we are spiders on a web then AARNet must be the mother of all webs. (Apologies to Sadam Hussein). Based in Canberra, AARNet provide the major Australian gateway to the globe. Recently the Vice Chancellors gave the management contract to run AARNet to Telstra, the Australian government owned telecommunications network. Recently, volume charging was imposed on the innocent Australian population by AARNet. AARNet was originally established to provide the Internet gateway for the Australian Universities and the CSIRO (see next listing).

The CSIRO is primarily an Australian multidisciplinary research organisation supporting all areas of Australian life. CSIRO stands for: Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation.
