Full name is Alfred Unser Jr. Part of racing's fastest family. Father Al is four time Indianapolis 500 winner and three time IndyCar champion and Uncle Bobby has won three times at Indy. Uncle Louie is a top engine builder. Uncle Jerry was killed at Indy in 1958. Avid hunter and snowmobiler. Of father says: "He's taught me everything I know but he hasn't taught me everything he knows." Drove first Indy car at age twenty in 1982 at Riverside. Says "next to my Dad and Uncle Bobby, the drivers always admired most were A.J.Foyt and Gordon Johncock. But in that first race I lapped A.J.. I lapped Gordon and I passed my Dad - it was like I lost something. It was the day I knew I was one of them I couldn't look at them that way ever again." He and wife Shelley are the parents of daughters Michelle (3rd January 1987) and Shannon Lee (18th November 1988) and son Alfred Richard Unser (23rd October 1982).
