Racing Career:
A veteran of seventy four Grand Prix Gugelmin joined the PPG IndyCar World Series late in 1993 driving for Dick Simon Racing. Racing career began in Karting starting at age eight.
1980 - Brazilian national Karting champion.
1981 - Brazilian Formula Fiat series champion.
1982 - Entered British Formula Ford 1600 series scoring eleven poles and thirteen wins and capturing national championship.
1984 - Drove in European Formula Ford 2000 championship - taking title.
1985 - Scored British Formula Three title, also winning Macau F3 World Cup title.
1986 - Entered Formula 3000 championship.
1987 - Returned to Formula 3000 scoring his first series win.
1988 - Started sixteen races for Leyton House March-Judd Formula One team scoring five points in his most successful F1 season. Ranked thirteenth in the World Championship standings. Gugelmin finished fifth in Hungary and fourth in the British Grand Prix.
1989 - Returned to March-Judd Formula One team. Scored his only Formula One podium finish (third) in Brazil in front of home crowd. Finished sixteenth in World Championship rankings with four points.
1990 - Moved to Leyton House-Judd Formula One team. Scored one world championship point with a sixth-place finish in Belgium. Finished eighteenth overall in championship.
1991 - Started fifteen Grand Prix with Leyton House-Limor F1 team.
1992 - Started sixteen races for Jordan-Yamaha Formula One team.
1993 - Entered PPG IndyCar World Series starting final three events of the year with Dick Simon Racing.
1994 - Started all sixteen races for Chip Ganassi Racing Teams. Scored a career best finish in Australia by placing sixth. Had career best starts at Detroit and Mid-Ohio by gridding fifth.
