Racing Career:

Got his racing start in Karts in Sao Paulo, Brazil in 1982.

1982 - Placed third in the 125 cc Karting junior class in Sao Paulo.

1983 - Won the 125cc Karting class B championships in Sao Paulo.

1984 - Placed third in the 125cc Karting class A championships in Sao Paulo. Placed second in the 100cc Karting FIA Brazilian class A championship.

1985 - Placed twelfth in the Brazilian Formula Ford 1600 championships.

1986 - Scored one victory and placed seventh in the Brazilian Formula Ford 1600 championship.

1987 - Won seven races in the Brazilian Formula Ford 1600 series en route to winning the championship.

1988 - Placed tenth in the Esso British Formula Ford 1600 series.

1989 - Scored four wins in the Esso British Formula Ford 1600 on his way to placing third in the championship. Won four races and placed third overall in the RAC British Formula Ford 1600.

1990 - Scored two wins and placed second in the British Vauxhall Lotus. Placed third in the European Opel Lotus championship.

1991 - Scored three wins en route to third placing in the British Formula 3 championships.

1992 - Scored seven wins and won the British Formula 3 championship. Tested the Williams Renault Formula One car.

1993 - Scored one win and placed fourth in the FIA international Formula 3000 championship. Tested the Footwork Formula One car.

1994 - Scored two wins and placed third in the FIA International Formula 3000 championship. Tested with Hall Racing and later announced he would join the team for 1995.
