Racing Career:

Began racing motocross at the age of eight.

1982 - Entered first auto race the 24 hours of Mexico. Moved into Formula Vee class of Marlboro Cup Series of Mexico finishing fourth overall with two wins, three poles and Rookie of the Year honours.

1983 - Won Mexican Marlboro Formula Vee championship. Named Rookie of the Year in Formula Ford 1600 championship.

1984 - Repeat winner of Mexican Marlboro Formula Vee championship. Also finished fourth in Formula K series.

1985 - Raced full time in Formula K - finishing second overall.

1986 - Finished third in Formula K.

1987 - Moved to Europe competing in Benelux Formula Ford 1600 series.

1988 - Drove in RAC British Formula Ford championship.

1989 - In British Formula Ford 1600 scored six podium finishes and two pole positions finishing eighth overall in the Esso series and fifth in the British championships.

1990 - Returned to Mexico to race in International Formula Three series, scoring two wins and four pole positions and finishing second in the championship.

1991 - In F3 won the international F3 championship with four wins and seven pole positions.

1992 - Moved up to Indy Lights series breaking Rookie records for most wins (four: Phoenix, Detroit, Milwaukee, New England), most laps led and most oval wins in a season. Finished third in the championship and was named Rookie of the Year..

1993 - Started five races for Galles Racing International in IndyCar Rookie season. Posted a top finish of seventh at Detroit. Moved up from 24th starting point at Laguna Seca to score second career IndyCar points finish.

1994 - Started all 16 races as Galles Racing International's only driver. Came on strong at mid-season and scored a top finish of fifth at Road America. Led his first IndyCar race at Vancouver when he paced the field for one lap.
