Fine Feather Tours is owned and operated by Del and Pat Richards, and is based in Mossman North Queensland, between Port Douglas and the Daintree River, and is adjacent to the richest birding area in Australia. Well over half of Australia’s species have been recorded within a distance of 200 kilometres. Our tours, which operate daily, visit up to eight different habitats including lowland rainforest, river mouth, mangroves, salt marsh, upland rainforest, wetland, grassland and savannah woodland. Your guide, Del Richards, has accumulated over forty years experience birding in all Australian states, and is able to locate the vast majority of the local species. Del is also fully qualified as a bird bander and, with author/ornithologist Lloyd Nielsen, has recently discovered a new bird for Australia - the Pacific Swallow. This is the first new permanent species in at least 16 years, and it has only been found in the Mossman region.
