It aims to be: "A light hearted and satirical, though frequently factual look at Australia and the world."
Natasha runs out on Republicans
It was interesting to hear the notoriously vocal Stott Despoja struck down with a case of shyness. Radio 2GB's Graham Richardson interviewed Tony Abbott and Natasha Stott Despoja earlier this week. Richardson announced that after the break the two would be available to answer questions. A red faced Richo was forced to apologise for 'misleading listeners' Apparently Natasha had somewhere else to be. Perhaps eating humble pie?
Kernot in hospital
Cheryl Kernot is sick with stress. Can't understand why - what does her job description consist of? Alas, jumping ship in high seas requires maximum energy.
Petrol pump mystery
Last week I was at the scene of an accident An elderly lady driving a clap trap car, drove straight into a petrol pump, which caused the vehicle to become wedged between the pump and a pole. The car was forced onto its side and the lady was hurriedly pulled from the vehicle. I watched for any sign of injury or stroke, but the lucky old dear escaped basically unscratched. Why the accident occurred is a mystery. Could have something to do with her age and the walking cane that she uses. How many accidents occur due to the limitations caused by old age? Surely this must be assessed.
Fox mimes to the music
Apparently a well-known Australian singer was caught out miming at the grand opening of Fox Studios at Moore Park. According to my roving reporter, the tape the 'Neighbours' has been was using for backing, wasn't even all her own voice.
Guess it's over, call it a day
Sorry that it had to end this way
No reason to pretend
We knew it had to end some day, this way
Yes, it's over, the members are gone
What's the use of tryin' to hang on?
Somewhere we lost the key
So little left for you and me and it's clear to see
Too much, too little, too late to lie again with you
Too much, too little, too late to try again with you
We're in the middle of ending something that we knew
It's over
Oh, it was over
Too much, too little, too late to ever try again
Too much, too little, too late, let's end it being friends
Too much, too little, too late, we knew it had to end
Ah, it's over
It's over
Yes, it's over, the chips are down (whoa)
Nearly all our bridges tumbled down
Whatever chance we try, let's face it widened-eye
It's over (It's over)
It's over
Too much, too little, too late to ever try again
Too much, too little, too late, let's end it being friends
Too much, too little, too late, we knew it had to end
And it's over
And it's over
And it's over
Johnny Mathis and Deniece Williams managed to hold on to top spot with 'Too
much, too little, too late" for one week during 1978.
It's 1999 and One Nation have proved to be more than a one week wonder - but the strain is beginning to show. The cracks are real and the ground is giving way.
In my opinion it was only a matter of time before Scott Balson saw the light and handed in his resignation. For someone who has slogged away for One Nation from day one, they didn't give him much of a send off. No magnum of Champagne or slap on the back, but a nice little note from David Ettridge: "You have been a valued and appreciated member of the team for a long time and I hope that you will continue to support us and be that familiar face at our functions." In typical One Nation style though, they cut and run. Today's news reveals that Scott may be facing expulsion. Peculiarly, certain One Nation officials were not aware of the reasons surrounding the resignation.
The rumour mill is churning. It seems Scott isn't the only one fed up with Oldfield et al and the stagnant nature of the Party. Another high profile figure has been pegged to walk from One Nation. My source tells me his exact words were, "I'd much rather jump than be pushed."
Perhaps the TAB should begin to take bets?
